Tension builds toward the unexpected ending which left me looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Wow! This book really keeps you on your toes and makes you think. The characters draw you in and keep you wanting more. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series!!

Captivated by the creative story, I really enjoyed Holt's style of writing.
Perfectly paced, I was never bored or had to push through. I was hooked throughout the entire book - and was bummed when it ended. As soon as I finished, I immediately bought the second book.
Red School should be turned into a movie...

I tore through this quickly. It's a fresh, compelling, gripping novel. The characters are among some of the best I've come across in years. The suspense builds perfectly and the storyline is so original, you'll think about the poignant scenes and intriguing characters long after you've finished the book. Not only was the book excellent, it was a great introduction to a genre I hadn't considered until reading this book. I came away almost wishing Red School existed! Can't wait to read the next in the series!
I recently finished "Red School," and am look forward to the others in the series. I read over 50 books (by top selling authors) last year. "Red School" was the best. It kept my attention and I finished it within a few days of starting (the mark of a good book). I think it would make a good feature-length movie.

I have read this book over and over, loving it each time. A great basis for the series that follows. The character development was careful and deliberate. I am a suspense/mystery novel lover and can usually see the next twist coming, but not in this book. Very well written.
Though not my usual genre, I found myself highly addicted to this book! The author does a great job of keeping the intense pace moving while still devoting time to character development, creating the perfect balance of interesting plot lines involving characters you care about. The action scenes are kept intriguing yet fun, without allowing the book to become bogged down in international politics but still creating exciting and relevant scenarios. A pleasant surprise from a new author!
The mark of any good book for me is not being able to neccessarily see what's coming. That's what makes a "page-turner," and that's what Mr. Holt has given us.
Obviously, since Red School is a book about children who are trained from an early age as assasins, we know there's going to be some death and destruction. Much like the character Dexter of the Showtime series of the same name, our protagonist, Noal, is a killer - but a killer with principles. The line between justifiable killings and just plain killing may be blurred at times, but thanks to the richness of Mr. Holt's characters, we find ourselves always pulling for Noal and his classmates. We know the murder and mayhem is coming, but it's how it plays out that makes the book an interesting read. We want to know what the next step in the "education" of the Red School kids is going to be.
The end of the book will sneak up on you, but not in a contrived way. Too many authors attempt to wrap things up in a nice tidy bow at the end of their books. Mr. Holt throws you a curve, but a curve that is totally plausible. And, despite the fact that this is the first book in a series, the book has an actual ending, albeit one that has you looking forward to the future and what it might hold for the kids of Red School.
