Ensconced in a lovely tropical villa on idyllic Triggerfish Lane, Jim Davenport anticipates the good life to come. But this isn't living -- it's Florida, and the neighborhood is not quite what it seems. It's got overly aggressive Little League parents, drug-free Rastafarians, homicidal hookers, unnatural sex and casual violence. Oh, yes, and there's a psychopathic serial killer-cum-Sunshine-State folklorist named Serge A. Storms living directly across the street. So it's only a matter of time before Jim up and actually kills somebody...

I must confess, I love a good series. Just ask Harry Bosch or Jack Reacher. Since I’ve read all their books I was browsing for something new when a selection from Amazon Unlimited popped up. Clownfish Blues, and I was hooked from the start. Taking place in Florida, Serge is a damaged man, but a genius who doesn’t tolerate injustice. As he defines it anyway and travels the state giving impromptu history lessons at historical places with his pal Coleman. There’s murder and mayhem but no forty stuff and plenty of humor. Laugh out loud parts, too. I started with book 13, so I had to correct that and go back to the beginning with book one, Florida ROADKILL and now I’m going on to Book 5. I’ll hate to see the adventures end.Product details

Triggerfish Twist (Audible Audio Edition) Tim Dorsey George K Wilson Recorded Books Books Reviews
While there are funny to hilarious moments in "Triggerfish Twist," Tim Dorsey's Florida is so preposterous that the jokes are just too far fetched. He's like Carl Hiassen on crack. I had read a Serge Storms story before and enjoyed its wacko weirdness, and I bought this hoping for new adventures of equal pleasure. Instead, Serge, Coleman and Sharon are the same too over the top characters, just in different settings. Probably my last Serge book.
Huge Dorsey, Serge, and Coleman fan, so I admit I'm biased. HIs mixture of dark, sardonic, absurdity, consciousness, and side-splitting, drink spitting hilarity is singular excellence. Pray that this material finds it way into capable hands and on to either the small or large screen someday. HBO or Netflix would be perfect vehicles. God please do not let either Tim Burton or Johnny Depp have anything to do with production!!!!
Fulfilling every reader's wish
Is Dorsey's funny Triggerfish
Perhaps the best one of the lot
(At least of all the ones I've got)
The fourth novel in the series is set in Tampa in 1997. Jim Davenport is the unlikely star of this one, proving that even a milquetoast can cause a lot of trouble given the right circumstances.
It all begins when a clerical error lists Tampa as the third best city to raise a family, and good old Jim accepts a transfer from his company, settling in with his family in Triggerfish Lane. He soon learns that sometimes opportunity knocks just for the heck of it, and finds himself in the middle of a character jungle that only Dorsey could create.
As usual, the characters and highly improbable situations make the book, and things really get crazy when Serge, the world's favorite psychopath, moves into Triggerfish Lane with his cronies Sharon and Coleman. Serge is a fountain of information and a philosopher, but when faced with injustice he springs into action, devising his trademark Machiavellian and Goldberg-ian solutions to the problem.
You'll find yourself laughing out loud at things that aren't normally considered funny, such as real estate scams, corporate down-sizing, used car dealership tricks, fake millionaires, substance abuse (almost any substance), deranged killers on the rampage, pit bulls and little old ladies in cold water, but when Dorsey puts them all together, it'll hit your funny bone hard.

"Triggerfish Twist" is Dorsey's fourth novel, and he bring backs the irascible serial killer Serge, and his stoner friend Coleman, for this text. However, most of the other characters are new to avid Dorsey readers.
Some highlights of this novel include the wonderfully film noiresque conversations between the detective Mahoney, and a slightly perverted cop who shows up at many crimes scenes. The cop is known only as "Sarge". Every conversation between the two brought a chuckle. The doormat of a protagonist, Jim Davenport, is also a nice Dorsey creation as he is the epitome of a good guy getting screwed everywhere he turns because he is so decent. In Dorsey's world of justice Mr. Davenport gets the rewards he richly deserves by novel's end, and those who have used and abused him also get theirs.
Another highlight of the novel that merits mention is a college commencement speech that Serge delivers. It is found on pages 314-317 of the book, and it is nothing short of hilarious and brilliant. It is funny, but it also contains some very real truths about our world today.
Oddly enough, this text is a celebration of neighborhoods and traditional family values. Serial killer Serge idolizes nuclear families and Jim Davenport because he knows how valuable what they do and provide is to a stable society. It is odd to get that message from a novel that focuses on a serial killer and his drug addled friends, but it is there none the less.
Unlike many of the previous Dorsey novels featuring Serge A. Storms, this one is a completely stand alone text, and does not need (or even connect to) the three books that preceded it.
"Triggerfish Twist" is a fun summer novel, and gives you more of Dorsey's twisted humor. That is what it was meant to be, and that is what it delivers.
